Introducing the Sutter North PowerKids!
Teaching local children how to be smart, healthy and happy
There are some new superheros in town. They don’t leap tall buildings in a single bound or fight crime, but they know how to eat smart and keep fit – things every child needs to know to grow up smart, healthy and happy!
Meet the Sutter North PowerKids! Marcos the Monkey, Raj the Lion and Kaylee the Kangaroo are making the rounds around town visiting local schools, community events and public fairs.
The colorful characters are the newest edition to Sutter North’s campaign to fight childhood obesity – one of the biggest health problems in the United States. Overweight children are at greater risk of developing heart disease, diabetes and other serious health problems much earlier in life. They are also more likely to grow up to be overweight adults at risk for these diseases.
“The Sutter North PowerKids are a fun, entertaining and effective way to teach childen the importance of eating healthy and staying active,” says Sutter North Medical Foundation CEO David Yamamoto. “The trio are already a big hit with kids, and we expect their popularity to grow as they help instill healthy behaviors in children that will last a lifetime.”
Kaylee the Kangaroo
Kaylee is fit, fun and ready for any activity! Name the sport; Kaylee’s your girl, especially when it comes to running, boxing, jumping and hopping. Kaylee is also our resident fitness expert. With Kaylee, the right exercise for the right kid is “in the bag” or maybe “in the pouch!”
Marcos the Monkey
Marcos is living proof that you can have brains and muscles! He’s the top of his class academically, but he’s also a real swinger – going from tree to tree. Marcos knows exactly what it takes to eat right and just how much activity balances the perfect body and mind.
Raj the Lion
Raj is King of the Beasts and nutrition, too! He comes from a long line of “mystical lions” that know the powerful secrets of the “Mystic Food Pyramid.” Raj shows kids how to combine the fantastic foods and crazy colors of the food pyramid to create a world of newfound power, a world where kids become Sutter North PowerKids – smart, healthy and happy!
